Latest revision as of 00:40, 18 November 2024

I've been playing Crawl on CBR2 since August 2023. In late November and early December 2023, I played on (now defunct) CKO due to issues with CBR2. I'm going to participate in the 0.32 CCSDT in November, using CBR2 for those games and CDI for trunk games on the side. Here's my stats page. (technically not the official one, but it has more info than what CAO has)

I created a page documenting a Formicid Venom Mage of Ru in 0.30 here.

Tournaments

DCSS holds a tournament upon the release of each version. The tournament lasts 16 days and counts all games of the new version that are played on official servers. The table below shows some stats for each tournament I've participated in, with the version being a link to a page in my userspace with additional information on my performance in that tournament.

Version Overall Score Overall Rank* Total Players Wins Games Highest Score Lowest TC Win Fastest RT Win Most Pacific Win
0.31 25,247 340 2,731 1 27 1,799,189 58,128 8:57:09 2,759
0.32 34,857 221 2,842 1 17 3,106,034 49,047 4:35:43 2,240

*Unlike the tournament page, this table doesn't compress ties.

Future major features

I'm on the #dcss channel of the roguelikes Discord, where the devs sometimes discuss future plans. This section will give a rough outline of these plans along with what's been revealed about them. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list, just a vague idea of major features expected to be added in either the current or the next development cycle.

How a development cycle works

Crawl is in continuous development except during feature freezes. In development, features are added to trunk and tested there until they're removed, or the next stable version is released. A few weeks before a version release, a feature freeze will be announced, meaning only bug fixes and necessary balance changes are allowed until the start of the next development cycle. Once the tournament for a new release ends, the next development cycle starts, possibly with one or more "commit storms" by devs who were coding features during the feature freeze but couldn't implement them yet.

Plans for 0.33

  • Poltergeist: This is a species planned to replace Vampire. It would use Vp apts as a baseline and have interchangeable auxes.
  • Revenant: This is a species planned to replace Ghoul. The main features of this species are TBD.
  • Talisman expansion: There are plans to add more talismans and increase their drop rate in 0.33. The idea is that some of the new talismans would be useful to casters, and that some of them would have active abilities to make them more interesting.
  • Hellpan Roulette: This would change extended so only one of Hell or Pan appears in each game, while the other is replaced with a holy-themed area containing the alabaster rune. The demonic rune would be removed, and Pan would be made finite. Scoring will also need to be adjusted since there will be fewer runes in a single game.
