"Only items that appear magical can bear curses; any item that has no descriptive word before the item name cannot be cursed. For example, a trident will always be safe to equip, while a runed trident may or may not bear a curse."
According to the function _weapon_is_visibly_special in makeitem.cc only one of every three cursed items gets the cosmetic flag [1]. --CommanderC 22:57, 17 January 2013 (CET)
