Once merely a joke used by experienced players to send newer ones on a wild goose chase, the Abyssal Stair finally received existence of a sort in 0.12. It now refers to the stairs that carry players deeper into the Abyss, where the monsters and terrain become more dangerous but the rewards become more probable. In all, the Abyss has five levels, and the abyssal rune can only be found on the last three.
There are no Abyssal stairs in versions prior to 0.12.
