An opalescent crab with jet black eyes, and chaotic mists effusing from its mandibles. Rumours claim that this species is waiting for the end of time.

“I should have been a pair of ragged claws
scuttling across the floors of silent seas.”
-T.S. Eliot, _The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock_. 1915.

Useful Info

Apocalypse crabs are extraordinarily unpleasant demonic crustaceans which breathe huge clouds of seething chaos at you, inflicting multiple chaos effects on you if you don't have cloud immunity. They are also capable of unpredictable damage in melee due to their chaos-branded attacks, and they are very resistant to both fire and cold. They can usually be found in the Abyss, but some Abyss- or crab-themed vaults can have them too.

Spells

Spell set I
Slot1 Chaos Breath (d12) Natural flag

Tips & Tricks

  • You do not want to find yourself stuck in a cloud of seething chaos if you can help it. If you find yourself standing in one and see a chaos-free space adjacent to you, immediately step clear. As these pests only appear in the Abyss, you can't rely on Blink to get you clear, so walking out as quickly as possible is your best bet.
  • These crabs have low HD and poison vulnerability, so if you happen to still know Mephitic Cloud, feel free to blast away with it. If you have poison resistance, even better! Shooting yourself with Mephitic Cloud will create defensive noxious clouds that will keep away the chaos.
  • Note that cloud immunity protects you only from clouds of seething chaos. When the breath hits you, it can still apply chaos effects, including paralysis or banishment.
  • Although fighting chaos-branded enemies in melee is usually a risky idea, you're already in the Abyss, so the worst-case scenario is already ruled out.
