Version 0.14: This article may not be up to date for the latest stable release of Crawl.

The Arbitrary Unit of Mass (AUM for short) is the standard unit of weight in Crawl. It has no real-world equivalent, and item weights are generally assigned according to game balance rather than realism. Each point of strength increases your carrying capacity by 25 aum. When this capacity is exceeded, the player gains the encumbered condition.

History

In 0.15, Crawl will lose all concept of weight.

Prior to 0.13, each point of strength increased your carrying capacity by 30, but characters had much less base capacity.

Prior to 0.6, each point of strength only gave you 10 aum of carrying capacity.
