Version 0.12: This article may not be up to date for the latest stable release of Crawl.

The conservation intrinsic reduces the chance of losing your scrolls, potions, or food to special enemy attacks by 90%. There are three sources of conservation:

There are also two sources of item protection that are similar to conservation, but function separately. Both stack with conservation.

  • Followers of Jiyva gain an alternative version of conservation that has a success rate based on piety and protects against attacks that normal conservation does not affect.
  • Demonspawn can gain a demonspawn mutation that protects their scrolls or their potions 90% of the time. Lava orcs start with the version that protects scrolls.

Warning

Note that standard conservation does not affect a harpy's food-destroying attacks. Only Jiyva can help you there.
