Version 0.14: This article may not be up to date for the latest stable release of Crawl.

The dragon slaying brand causes a weapon to deal +75% bonus damage on attacks against any kind of dragon, drake, draconian, or player in Dragon Form. Wielding a dragon slaying weapon will give your character the desire to slay dragons, or, if you are a draconian, make your character feel suicidal; either way, this identifies it.

Note that some dragon-like monsters are not vulnerable to dragon slaying, namely wyverns and hydras. Neither are komodo dragons, as those are a type of real-world reptile.

This brand can only be found on polearms.

Tips & Tricks

  • This brand works best on a high-damage weapon, since the damage is multiplicative.
  • It can be useful in Zot to take down packs of draconians, although a weapon of freezing is usually preferable. Freezing will do less damage, but will slow all draconians other than white ones, an effect which is generally more useful.

History

In 0.15, the brand will be removed from regular weapon generation, and left solely on the unrand Wyrmbane.

Prior to 0.13, this brand also reduced a susceptible enemy's chance to hit you with their breath weapons by 25%, flavoured as the dragons being averse to looking at the weapon (and therefore having difficulty lining up a shot).

In Crawl versions 0.12 and 0.13, drakes were unaffected by the dragon slaying brand.
