An elf, a member of an ancient fey race. Elves are slightly built when compared to humans, and have an innate magical acumen, though less than their deep elf cousins.

Useful Info

Plain elves are fairly boring humanoid monsters, only posing a threat if they happen to find a decent weapon before you encounter them. However, they are only ever found in a handful of rare vaults. You are much more likely to encounter a shapeshifter which has assumed the shape of an elf, usually on one of the middle floors of the Dungeon.

Variant Elves

You may encounter a high elf sorcerer while exploring certain vaults. These are only slightly more powerful than elves physically, but they pack dangerous magic. They usually guard a book of Wizardry and non-elemental magical staff.

Spells: Fireball (3d25), Lightning Bolt (3d20), Agony, Summon Elemental, Haste, Invisibility

This apparently adventurous high elf is just as proficient in magic as its deep elf brethren.

The same vault may also contain a sludge elf earth mage, which is very familiar except for the Earth Magic theme to its spells. They usually guard a staff of earth and book of the Earth.

Spells: Iron Shot (3d28), Shatter, Lee's Rapid Deconstruction, Petrify, Stoneskin, Blink

A sludge elf particularly well-attuned to the powers of earth.

Certain vaults contain members of the obsolete grey elf race, which are basically no different than other elves.

Once considered a unique species on its own, grey elves are now more properly classified as a sub-species of high elf. Little exists to distinguish them from their high elf cousins, aside from their supposed glamour (which is probably more myth than fact).

Deformed elf.pngYou can find deformed elves, febrile elves, and sickly elves in some of the sealed chambers in Cigotuvi's Fleshworks.

This poor creature looks hideously deformed.

Tips & Tricks

  • The uniques Dowan, Duvessa, and Fannar are listed simply as "elf" for their species.
  • If you see an elf roaming free and it doesn't appear to be part of a vault or have any equipment, it's probably a shapeshifter.
