Obsolete: This article refers to an aspect of the game which has been removed. It is retained for historical reference only.
Strewn with twigs and leaves that crunch loudly underfoot, the grass is crisp and fresh.

Eringya's Formal Garden is a Wizard Laboratory made of bushes, trees, and tasteful statuary. Its map is a fairly simple series of shrub-lined pathways, with a portal out just next to the entrance and a pair of fairly obvious guarded treasure chambers behind doors. Expect heavy resistance from centaur and satyr defenders, hostile thorn hunters, and for the garden to occasionally obstruct your path by surrounding you with toadstools and wandering mushrooms.

One of the two treasure chambers will contain a variety of artefact spellbooks, magical staves, and/or rods which may be guarded by two oklob plants. The other will contain an altar to Fedhas Madash guarded by vine-covered earth elementals, as well as more loot. There is a chamber filled with potions in the middle of the floor, and the garden will occasionally drop fruit near you.

The garden's long passageways can give these enemies ample time to pepper you with arrows before you can reach them, but they're thankfully not very durable. If you find yourself unable to lure them around a corner, try blasting them with powerful ranged attacks, or start a forest fire near them with Fire Magic or Lightning Bolt; if the fire damage doesn't kill them, the smoke will hamper their line of sight to you. Bows specialists may find a nice bow here, but don't expect much else from the centaurs.

These goatmen are capable of hitting you with a variety of Hexes, along with their ranged and melee attacks. These include Corona (near-harmless), Cause Fear (frustrating), and Confusion (potentially deadly). As with the centaurs, lure them around corners when possible, and if you have a source of magic resistance, use it.

These confusion-inducing pests are easy enough to kill with a ranged weapon (possibly one of the countless bows lying around the floor) and at least one space of distance. They occasionally spawn along with the random toadstools the Garden throws at you. Kill them when they appear, but if they aren't adjacent to you, you can worry about more mobile threats first.

If you intend to get any of this Laboratory's loot, you might need to deal with two of these at short range. Fireball or Freezing Cloud can take them out in perfect safety, and those with acid resistance can probably deal with their attacks. Characters without such defenses should be careful not to fight them while other enemies are around, and should be sure to repair any corrosion before moving on.

While made of ordinary old weathered stone, covered with moss and vines, this earth elemental still demands respect. It is still as hard as stone, after all, and its weight spells massive damage if it connects a blow.

History

This laboratory has been retired as of 0.17.

Prior to 0.14, the altar of Fedhas Madash was guarded by vine-covered golems, which were essentially stone golems.
