Excruciating Wounds is a level 5 Charms/Necromancy spell that temporarily infuses the caster's currently equipped weapon with the pain brand. It will not affect missiles or launchers, nor weapons which are otherwise branded.
Attempting to make this temporary brand permanent with a scroll of vorpalise weapon will fail, tormenting you in the process.
