The scales of a fire-breathing dragon. It provides great protection from fire, while rendering its wearer more susceptible to cold.

Fire dragon scales are a relatively light suit of body armour which provides reasonable physical defense, a bearable encumbrance rating, and excellent fire resistance (rF++). However, they also penalize the wearer with one rank of cold vulnerability.

This item has a 1/3 chance to generate when you slay a fire dragon, like all other dragon scales.

Desirability

Many players consider these scales the best general-purpose armour: they provide almost as much protection as plate armour, while having an encumbrance rating that will still allow spellcasting. The rF++ they provide is very useful, and the rC- is usually bearable given that cold attacks are generally rarer and less damaging than fire attacks, with a few notable exceptions. Still, it is often best to wait until you have at least one source of cold resistance before wearing fire dragon scales, as taking an extra 50% from cold attacks can be quite dangerous.

History

  • Prior to 0.10, this item was known merely as "dragon armour". It was renamed to avoid confusion with other dragon armours.
