Ignite Poison is a level 3 Fire/Transmutation/Poison spell which causes all nearby poisoned creatures and poisonous clouds to burst into flames.

Ignite Poison is a level 5 Fire Magic/Transmutations spell which causes all nearby poisonous things in line of sight to burst into flames (excluding the caster). Any monster which leaves a poisonous corpse, is poisoned, or (in some cases) has a poisonous attack takes fire damage (and is cured of any poison in its system). Ignoring the player's inventory, all poisonous corpses and chunks, all potions of poison, strong poison, or degeneration, all poisonous ammo, and all poison or mephitic clouds burst into flame clouds. Finally, it will convert a temporarily venom-branded weapon into a flaming one.

Against monsters with poisonous corpses (including kobolds, killer bees and hydras), Ignite Poison deals significant, undodgeable damage almost like smiting (though it can still be lessened with fire resistance). Clearing a killer bee vault using this spell is similar to using Cheibriados' Slouch ability. Just shout to get the attention of as many killer bees as possible and then cast it twice. Everything in sight will be dead.

Clearing Snake Pit is much easier with this spell, but you will require more casts, and clumps of nagas will often be able to fight back at range.

This spell also works great when used together with Mephitic Cloud; the noxious clouds generated by the former spell turn into clouds of fire. This combination makes it easy to take out groups of monsters rather early in the game. First confuse them with Mephitic Cloud, then (once the monsters are confused) cast Ignite Poison and let the poor guys stumble through the flames. And, of course, casting Ignite Poison after casting Poisonous Cloud creates the "fire version" of Freezing Cloud.

Converts all nearby poison into liquid flame, burning poisoned creatures from within. It also turns clouds of poison and mephitic gases into flame. The caster is not affected directly.

Ignite Poison is a level 3 Fire/Transmutation/Poison spell which causes all nearby poisoned creatures and poisonous clouds to burst into flames.

Effect

All poison and mephitic clouds in caster's line of sight are replaced with flame clouds. All poisoned monsters in line of sight take damage and lose their poisoned status. Higher spell power may increase the duration of the flame clouds and the damage taken by poisoned creatures.

Poisoned creatures take direct damage according to how many poison stacks they have, dealing approximately 200%-300% of the potential poison damage immediately, depending on spell power.

Duration of the flame clouds is 3 + (1d(20 + <power>) - 1) / 10 turns[1]—that is, from 3-5 turns to 3-15 turns.

Strategy

Ignite Poison deals unavoidable heavy fire damage to every poisoned creature in sight. Combine it with ways of applying poison to multiple enemies at once, such as Olgreb's Toxic Radiance, for a powerful crowd-clearing tool.

 • Ignite Poison works great when used together with Mephitic Cloud; the noxious clouds generated by the former spell turn into clouds of fire. First confuse them with Mephitic Cloud, possibly casting it a few times to cover a larger area, then (once the monsters are confused) cast Ignite Poison and let the monsters stumble through the flames.
 • Also note that monsters which are immune to Mephitic Cloud will happily walk through its noxious clouds to reach you. If you cast Ignite Poison at the right moment you can blast them as well.

History

 • Prior to 0.18, Salamander mystics had Localized Ignite Poison in their spellset.
 • Prior to 0.17, Ignite Poison was a level-5 spell, but affected monsters with poison-branded attacks, chunks, and potions of poison. It did not use the Poison Magic school.
 • Prior to 0.8, Ignite Poison used to be an amazingly painful way to eliminate poison from one's own system.
