An intricately carved idol of some nameless godling, hewn of translucent orange crystal. Its lifeless eyes seem to glitter uncannily with a wicked intelligence. It is capable of unleashing a powerful psychic assault upon the minds of any who approach it.

Useful Info

Every turn you are in the line of sight of an orange crystal statue, there is a 66.6% chance that it will inflict a random Divinations miscast effect on you. If your current intelligence is less than 8, you are at risk of instantly being reduced to 0 intelligence if you have no quick means of recovering from having 0 intelligence. Other effects include confusion or draining your MP. They can be found in various vaults almost anywhere after the early Dungeon.

Tips & Tricks

Fortunately, these statues can be instantly and reliably destroyed with a single zap of a wand of disintegration (if you can stay unconfused long enough to zap it). To avoid being in its line of sight at all, an Orb of Destruction will make short work of it.

Note that an amulet of clarity will protect you from the confusion but a ring of sustain abilities won't protect you from the intelligence loss.

Variant Orange Crystal Statue

Wucad mu statue.png A Statue of Wucad Mu guards the inner treasure chambers of Wucad Mu's Monastery. A wand of disintegration works just as well on it as any other orange crystal statue, and destroying it has the added bonus of wiping out any shadowy monks that are still running around.

This statue, made from a fine glassy orange crystal, depicts a mystic known as Wucad Mu, who mastered the matters of the mind. Beware of the statue's powers, as you have no chance in mental combat against it.

History

Orange crystal statues used to also make you forget spells and maps.

In 0.15, orange crystal statues are immune to wands of disintegration.
