Pearl dragon armour is an excellent body armour choice that provides the same AC and GDR as plate armour but with a bearable encumbrance rating of -11. It also provides one rank of life protection.
Unfortunately, it is rarely found randomly, and pearl dragons can only be found on holy Pandemonium floors and Ziggurats. You can occasionally find them randomly strewn throughout the dungeon floors.
Desirability
This is often considered the ultimate armour for a caster or EV character, providing the same protection as plate armour with an encumbrance rating that won't badly impact Dodging or Spellcasting. Unfortunately, it is far too rare to rely on finding - plan on using a fire dragon armour.
