With archmagi and +5 intelligence, the robe of Folly is a tempting piece of armour for any character looking to squeeze out a little more spellpower, but only if they can make up for the very dangerous willpower penalty. An unlucky encounter with an opponent capable of banishing or paralysing you can very easily get you killed, and even confusion can be devastating. Only consider wearing this all the time if you've had very good luck finding artefacts which counter the willpower loss, and even then you'd be much safer with a more mundane +2 robe of the Archmagi and an amazing will score. Even with the recursing, however, it's entirely possible to wear it before taking on a particularly nasty opponent that lacks any will-checking abilities, then remove it before it gets the chance to betray you.

With a massive boost to all forms of spellcasting, the robe of Folly[1] is a tempting piece of armour for any mage. An encounter with an opponent capable of banishing or paralysing you can very easily get you killed, and even confusion can be devastating. For any player trying to win, this item should very much be avoided. But casual player might enjoy the absolute destruction the robe provides, especially with now-spammable long range spells such as Ozocubu's Refrigeration. Note that the Lair and some Lair rune branches (the Spider's Nest, Snake Pit, and Shoals) do not have immediately threatening enchantments, barring uniques who could very well end your game.
