A splendid flowing robe of fur and silk.

Robe of misfortune.png A robe [with a randomized appearance]

-5 robe

Cursed, recurses itself on equip
-5 EV
Prevents Spellcasting
Forces Teleportation
-100 Stealth
Causes heavy magical contamination when taken off

Desirability

Easily the worst artefact in the game. It is quite dangerous to wear for any period of time, given its teleportitis and its prevention of spellcasting. And due to its randomized appearance, wearing any unidentified randart robe always poses a risk. Make sure you have scrolls of remove curse handy.

History

  • In 0.23, this unrand will be reworked to have a unique appearance and instead be the +5 robe of Misfortune {EV+5 Harm *Drain *Contam *Slow *Corrode}. It will be described as also inflicting misfortune on monsters; this being a reference to the AC and EV boost, and the +30% damage boost from Harm.
  • Prior to 0.19, the EV penalty was only -4, and the robe had -2 penalties to Dex, Str, and Int.
  • Prior to 0.15 the stealth penalty was -80.
  • Prior to 0.12, the Robe of Misfortune was even more dangerous to wear, as it would increase your magical contamination while you wore it. However, since its contamination was gradual, it was far less dangerous to try on if you had a scroll of remove curse handy.
