*A scroll of remove curse lets you test armour, weapons, and jewelry without the risk of being stuck with cursed gear. Try to save up several item types to test at the same time, as one scroll can uncurse any number of equipment slots.

*If you worship Ashenzari, you may convert scrolls of remove curse into scrolls of curse weapon, armour, or jewellery by praying while standing over them (the exact type of curse scroll you receive is random).

*If you need to take off a cursed item and don't have a scroll of remove curse, there are alternatives. A scroll of enchant weapon or scroll of enchant armour will uncurse single items along with their enchanting effect. This is true even for artefact weapons and armour, although the enchantment will not take hold.

*Acquiring a mutation that forbids the use of a certain item automatically unwears the item. For example, if you wear a cursed helmet and gain the horns mutation, the still-cursed helmet will immediately pop off.  Transmutations are not effective in removing armour, however.  It is instead melded, cursed or not.
