A large slimy dragon, its gnarly hide covered in swamp muck. Noxious gasses dribble from its snout.

“On the other hand, Confucius is made to say to his disciples, ‘I know how birds can fly, how fishes can swim, and how animals can run. But the runner may be snared, the swimmer may be hooked, and the flyer may be shot by the arrow. But there is the dragon. I cannot tell how he mounts on the wind through the clouds, and rises to heaven. Today I have seen Lao-tsze, and can only compare him to the dragon.’”
-Life of Confucius

“This Dragon had Two furious Wings
Each one upon each Shoulder;
With a Sting in his Tail as long as a Flail,
Which made him bolder and bolder.
He had long Claws, and in his Jaws
Four and forty Teeth of Iron;
With a Hide as tough, as any Buff,
Which did him round environ.”

Useful Info

Swamp dragons are medium-sized dragons which breathe poisonous clouds at you, but are otherwise less threatening than most dragons. You can usually find a few of them in the Swamp, particularly in the rune chamber on Swamp:4.

Spells

Slot1 Poisonous Cloud (3d7) Natural flag,
Breath flag,
Noisy flag

Tips & Tricks

  • Poison resistance takes most of the fight out of swamp dragons. If you lack this, you can stand in one of the naturally-occurring clouds of the Swamp to be (temporarily) safe from its breath.
  • Slaying a swamp dragon sometimes produces swamp dragon scales. This provides poison resistance, naturally useful in a poison-themed branch like the Swamp.

History

Prior to 0.19, this monster dropped a hide that could be turned into swamp dragon armour with a scroll of enchant armour.
