Necromutation is a complex spell and I don't think the Strategy section does it justice. just wanted to throw out some musings:

* removal of wands of heal wounds and haste mean that you can't use them '''during''' necromutation anymore; being hasted, and having greater offense, means being able to deal with every threats of every kind much more effectively, and reducing your overall exposure to danger

* the addition of dispel undead to Tomb
 +
* if you're thinking about using borgnjor's/DDoor you'd have to exit necromutation pre-emptively, which you likely don't have time for if you're actually thinking about using either spell

* the types of characters who would use this spell typically have enough Spellcasting and Intelligence to make spell hunger trivial.--[[User:Lyrick|Lyrick]] ([[User talk:Lyrick|talk]]) 03:06, 9 February 2018 (CET)

difficult to learn

I've been trying to learn this highlevel spell, in vain. You have to know it sooner or later if you want to explore the Crypt and win the rune. Even with XL=22, INT=28, Necromancy=11,8 and Transmutations 8,9 my character has got a 100% fail rate. Why the heck? The wiki tells nothing on that topic up to now. -- Bwijn 12:43, 6 April 2013 (CEST)

You don't need that spell for the Crypt (and there isn't any rune in that place). Dispel Undead is the one you want. Necromutation is a level 8, which means that you will need ~17 levels in Necromancy and Transmutations to be able to cast it. That's a rough estimate. --CommanderC 15:18, 6 April 2013 (CEST)
Hey, the Tomb (rune) is a subbranch of the Crypt as you know, and Dispel Undead is naturally one of my most frequently used spells in the late Midgame and Abyss. But to resist the massive torment casting monsters Necromutation is surely the most effective means. That's what this wiki tells everybody. By the way, what alternative strategy do you personally apply to the torment infested branches? - Thanks for your estimated numbers. Does that mean both skills should be 17? - I've never before tried out N., so it's all guessing. All the same I've just managed to learn the spell INT=36 (brilliance potion and a ring+6) Nec=12,1 & Tra=9,1 - the probability was 65% and the one backlash by the Necronomicon not too bad. Maybe that this Lev8 spell is no "must" (as you say) but I need to win own experiences with it. -- Bwijn 16:59, 6 April 2013 (CEST)

strategy

Necromutation is a complex spell and I don't think the Strategy section does it justice. just wanted to throw out some musings:

  • removal of wands of heal wounds and haste mean that you can't use them during necromutation anymore; being hasted, and having greater offense, means being able to deal with every threats of every kind much more effectively, and reducing your overall exposure to danger
  • the addition of dispel undead to Tomb
  • if you're thinking about using borgnjor's/DDoor you'd have to exit necromutation pre-emptively, which you likely don't have time for if you're actually thinking about using either spell
  • the types of characters who would use this spell typically have enough Spellcasting and Intelligence to make spell hunger trivial.--Lyrick (talk) 03:06, 9 February 2018 (CET)
