Version 0.28: This article may not be up to date for the latest stable release of Crawl.

Wizardry refers to items and effects that directly reduce your chance of failure when casting spells. These are provided by rings. A single source of wizardry decreases spell failure by 25%, two sources by 33.3%, and three by 50%. This is a subtractive bonus, though applied before a stepdown. Actual decreases will be smaller, especially as your failure rate gets smaller.

In addition, Vehumet applies two sources of wizardry (33%) to destructive spells. This bonus stacks with wizardry from other sources[1].

Note that in no case can failure rate of a spell be reduced by better than half using wizardry.
