Reading this scroll removes curses from the items you are using. |
The scroll of remove curse uncurses all cursed items you are wearing or wielding. It will not remove the curse from any items sitting in your inventory; you will need to equip them first before using it.
Tips & Tricks
- A scroll of remove curse lets you test armour, weapons, and jewellery without the risk of being stuck with cursed gear. Try to save up several item types to test at the same time, as one scroll can uncurse any number of equipment slots.
- If you worship Ashenzari, you may convert scrolls of remove curse into scrolls of curse weapon, armour, or jewellery by praying while standing over them (the exact type of curse scroll you receive is random).
Alternatives
- If you need to take off a cursed item and don't have a scroll of remove curse, there are alternatives. A scroll of enchant weapon or scroll of enchant armour will uncurse single items along with their enchanting effect. This is true even for artefact weapons and armour, although the enchantment will not take hold.
- Tukima's Dance is another option for unwielding cursed weapons, but the weapon will become hostile and remain cursed even after being "killed".
- Sticks to Snakes can similarly remove certain weapons (those made of wood), but the snake will be hostile and the weapon will be destroyed in the process.
- Acquiring a mutation that forbids the use of a certain item automatically unwears the item. For example, if you wear a cursed helmet and gain the horns mutation, the still-cursed helmet will immediately pop off. Note that transmutations are not effective in removing armour; it is melded into your body, whether cursed or not.
