Spell Hunger

Obsolete: This article refers to an aspect of the game which has been removed. It is retained for historical reference only.

Casting spells increases your hunger. The amount of hunger the spell causes depends on its level:

From this base cost, subtract the product of your Spellcasting skill and your Intelligence. So, a mage with Spellcasting 10 and Int 20 can cast a level 3 spell for free, and a level 4 spell causes 50 units of hunger (250 - 10*20). For reference, a ration gives 3400 units of nutrition, and a chunk of flesh gives 1,000.

In the table below you can work out how much hunger is subtracted from the cost of a spell for a given combination of Int * Spellcasting. Find your Int on either axis and your Spellcasting skill on the other axis; where they intersect is the amount of hunger cost reduced.

Above Int 37 & Spellcasting 27 (or equivalent multipliers, such as Int 50 & Spellcasting 20), the hunger cost for all spells is completely eliminated.

Tips and Tricks

• Wielding a staff of energy will eliminate all spell hunger for the player.
• Mummies, Vampires, and players in lichform do not experience spell hunger, as they do not need to eat.

History

• In 0.26, food and hunger were removed.
• In 0.24, Vampires became the second species without a food clock.
• In 0.16, base hunger cost per level was changed from 95 to 100 for level 2, 160 to 150 for level 3 and 350 to 400 for level 5.
