Version 0.27: This article may not be up to date for the latest stable release of Crawl.
A black ring that can make its wearer one with the shadows. It surrounds you with an aura of shadow, increasing your stealth and reducing the accuracy of all within it (including the wearer). |
the ring of Shadows
Generates a 3-tile umbra
Allows the wearer to turn invisible
+50 Stealth
Desirability
The ring's umbra reduces both player and monster accuracy and multiplies the player's stealth score by 1.5[1] (in addition to the +50 bonus). Very nice for stealthy characters and still good for most others. The accuracy penalty from umbra is mostly negligible.
Followers of Yredelemnul and Dithmenos don't suffer from the umbra's accuracy penalty (though followers of Dithmenos generate their own umbra that eventually becomes larger than the ring's at higher piety levels).
History
- In 0.28, the ring will no longer reduce the wearer's accuracy.
- Prior to 0.19, it had See Invisible and rN+ instead of a +50 Stealth bonus.
- Prior to 0.14, it had +4 EV and -4 accuracy instead of umbra.
