Desirability

The gauntlets of War[1] provide a solid chunk of general defense and a +5 slaying bonus in the gloves slot, making them an excellent item for melee characters, especially those with a fast weapon (e.g. demon whip, quick blade, any speed-branded weapon). A good pair of randart gloves might be better for casters, but these are definitely better than any regular gloves (if only due to the defense).
