With the 0.31 tournament over, I'm playing 0.31 stable at least until the first two experiments of 0.32 are complete (one will be for Beogh/Yred reworks, and the other will be for a Dithmenos rework and possibly other major changes). I'm on the #dcss channel of the roguelikes Discord, where the devs sometimes discuss future plans. This section will give a rough outline of these plans along with what's been revealed about them. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list, just a vague idea of major features expected to be added in either the current or the next development cycle.
  
This was my first tournament, so I came into it just trying to get a win. I soon realized that with categories and banners, there's a lot more to a tournament than wins. I did manage to get a win, but it was with a build poorly suited for tournament points (caster = more real time taken, low spellpower = more turns taken, Foxfire + Fulminant Prism = more kills). Now that I've done a tournament, I think the key to improvement is to do better in the early game so I'd get more uniques, piety points, and banners. I'd also like to get a melee win, or at least a win with a more points-friendly build. Less than 20% of tournament players get a win, so just getting a win is pretty good by itself, but more deep runs would help.

Features are now frozen. The 0.33 release is scheduled for May 2nd.

Plans for 0.34

  • Hellpan Roulette: This would change extended so only one of Hell or Pan appears in each game, while the other is replaced with a holy-themed area containing the alabaster rune. The demonic rune would be removed, and Pan would be made finite. Scoring will also need to be adjusted since there will be fewer runes in a single game.
  • Mummy dynasties: This would give Tomb more variety in its spawns, though no details have been revealed on how this would be implemented.
  • Monster invisibility rework: There are plans to improve invisibility UI, replace some monster uses of invisibility with other similar stuff, and make some changes to how invisibility works on what's left. Details haven't been revealed yet.
  • God wrath rework: The devs consider the current god wrath system to be patchwork, so there are plans to improve the designs of several of them to make them more cohesive and less gameable.
  • Nightmare: This is a species planned to be split off from monstrous demonspawn, following a precedent set in 0.26 with the Nightstalker mutation being moved from Demonspawn to Kobold. The new equipment slot system would allow this species to have unusual sets of slots and abilities based on what they get. No species removal has been planned, and it would be themed as having a fragment of a dead god stuck to them and trying to wake up.
