"Sniper" is magically enchanted crossbow that never misses its target. This coupled with the fact that it's maximally enchanted triple crossbow (in terms of base damage) make using it tempting despite of its horrible delay. Not only cannot the minimum attack delay of 1.3 be reached even at maxed out [[Crossbows]] skill, but it is also roughly twice as slow as comparable two-handed melee weapons at their minimum attack delay. That being said, despite having its enchantment reduced it can still rack up great deal of damage due to always hitting its target and having a velocity brand. If there is an enemy at the edge of line of sight, a skilled-user can still get several shots in before the enemy manages to engage in melee. All in all, this crossbow offers high amount of damage that is guaranteed to hit so while being very solid in most circumstances because of this, it is especially valuable against monsters with high EV and low HP (spriggans) or very dangerous opponents with extreme EV like [[Ereshkigal]].

Sniper[1] is essentially the dark maul of ranged weapons: it has an incredible enchantment, but sluggish delay. At 27 skill, you'll have a delay of 1.725 - this equates to a 75% of shooting at 1.7 turns, and 25% of shooting at 1.8. You'll also have a 34.5 base damage weapon enchanted to +27. For overall damage per turn, this is roughly equal to a +9 branded triple crossbow.

Attacking slow comes with a big risk: for every bolt you shoot, enemies will often get 2 turns to move. Fast enemies, like orbs of fire, can move thrice. Be wary of using this against especially fast enemies, or foes with dangerous ranged abilities. In dangerous situations, use potions of haste and/or Okawaru's Finesse to speed up your shots as much as possible.

On the flip side, perfect accuracy is valuable against monsters with high EV, like spriggans or Ereshkigal. If nothing else, you can use Sniper as a swapout. Like all weapons, it takes only 0.5 decaAut to swap from Sniper to a different ranged weapon.
