Wizardry refers to items and effects that directly reduce your chance of failure when casting spells. These are provided by rings and staves of wizardry.
In addition, Vehumet provides a wizardry-like reduction of failure rate (by 1/3) to destructive spell for sufficiently pious worshippers. This bonus stacks with wizardry from other sources[1].
Note that in no case can failure rate of a spell be reduced by better than half using wizardry.
History
- Prior to 0.25, potion of brilliance provided a temporary wizardry bonus.
- Prior to 0.14, staff of wizardry granted a better wizardry bonus than a ring of wizardry.
