recommended size of skill training

As a tengu you have two auxiliary attacks (beak and talons). So you should eventually train Unarmed Combat. Does it really make sense to put Xp into this slot? And to what extent? Train up to skill 3 or 5 or...? Anyone out there who'd share own experience or hints at code knowledge about this?
