Quaffing a potion of poison will, unsurprisingly, poison your character for 1 to 5 levels (with a strong probability for 3). Your poison status is set to yellow. Each level (up to poison level 5) will remove you on average 8 HP, with a frequency depending on your number of poisoned levels (20% chance turn and per level to lose 1 HP).
However, when thrown with the Evaporate spell, the potion of poison will create a 3x3 poison gas cloud that lasts a few turns, very useful for softening up groups of enemies.
