Brings forth a cloud of volatile blastmotes around the caster, which explode when something moves into them or when they're exposed to open flames. The explosion is concussive, knocking adjacent creatures away. Damage done rises with the spell's power.

Volatile Blastmotes is a level 3 Fire Magic/Translocations spell.

Fire Elementalists start with this spell in their libraries.

Useful Info

Creates a cloud of blastmotes on the user's tile. This spell cannot be used if another cloud is on your tile.

Blastmotes will explode when:

  • A creature moves onto the tile.
  • The cloud is hit directly by fire damage.

It will explode on a 3x3 square centered on the tile, dealing fire damage. Any creature (including the player) not on the center will be knocked away. This knockback does not deal extra damage if a creature would collide into a wall.

Strategy

Volatile Blastmotes essentially creates a landmine on your tile. Once something walks into the blastmotes, it explodes. Enemies will not try to avoid stepping on the blastmotes, even if they are intelligent.

Assuming you can get creatures to walk into the blastmotes, this spell's damage per MP is higher than Scorch, and unlike Flame Wave, can be used at a distance.
