Mislead is a monsters-only spell which replaces the glyphs or tiles of all visible monsters with randomly selected other glyphs or tiles, causing every monster in your line of sight to resemble something else. While this does make it difficult to determine what you're actually up against, it's possible for experienced players to figure out who's who based on context. You can become immune to this effect with clarity, and you can remove it by quaffing a potion of curing, by hitting yourself with a rain effect ("The rain washes away your illusions!"), or by leaving the level ("Away from their source, illusions no longer mislead you.").
