Monsters with this flag can flee when reduced to less than 25% of their max HP or to less than 20 HP (whichever is lower), unless they are cornered. Monsters with less than 8 max HP will never flee. Fleeing monsters will eventually recover and turn to attack you.

Tips and Tricks

When engaging an enemy in melee, try to position yourself in such a way that if they do flee, you can quickly corner them.

History

  • Fleeing was removed in 0.17. The last three monsters that had this flag were black bears, polar bears, and krakens.
  • Prior to 0.14, dragons, drakes, and crabs possessed the Flees flag.
  • This flag was added in 0.12. Before 0.12, the only monsters which would not flee were those with better than animal intelligence, the undead, plants, and nonliving monsters.
