A full suit of solid metal plate: cuirass, pauldrons, vambraces, waist plate and greaves. Chainmail covers gaps, allowing movement.
It provides excellent protection, yet donning it takes forever. |
Plate armour is one of the best armors in the game as far as AC goes, and it is commonly available; you are almost guaranteed to find one by the time you've cleared out the Orcish Mines. While gold dragon armour or crystal plate armour both have better AC and useful resistances, heavy fighters will likely use a suit of this for their early and mid games. Good randarts may be useful for the entire game, and they are not uncommon.
It takes 11 turns to wear or remove a plate armour.
History
Prior to 0.10, plate armour was known as plate mail.
