It surprised me because I didn't know it was possible and I was rather concerned that it might be there in place of the minotaur and normal exit, but I kept searching and did find the minotaur, loot, and exit. I suppose you could kill the minotaur, grab the loot, then go back to re-find the portal to make a trip to the abyss. - It's quite illogical to hope for an abyssal portal in the lab. 1. You wouldn't want to give up the lab's loot. 2. The lab is normally a gone branch the moment you leave it. - I'd agree that actually using such a portal might be a bad idea (hell, I'm nervous to enter the abyss at almost ANY time), but I think what Fingolfin was looking into was whether or not such a portal generates anymore (if it ever did), as it's stated in this article (certainly correct me if I'm wrong about that). - I encountered one just the other day, either playing 0.16.1 or Trunk.
