Desirability
It's great for a casting mummy, who needs all the fire resistance s/he can get and doesn't care about hunger. However, it is a fairly bad weapon, so unless you're a caster and/or are in desperate need of temporary resistances (say to run away from something nasty and on fire), it's not really worth using.
History
In 0.14, this will be significantly upgraded: it will have an enchantment of +3, +3, it will no longer make noises or cause hunger, and it may inflict a random elemental brand on each hit (with chance and power based on Evocations skill). However its base type will be downgraded to a mundane staff.
