Reading a [[scroll of fear]] causes most [[natural]] monsters in the reader's view to become frightened and flee for a few turns (including your allies). [[Berserk]] monsters are immune to its effects. It is extremely useful when swarmed (even better than a [[scroll of blinking]] in the early game), and should be saved for dangerous situations. In the late game, monsters with high [[magic resistance]] will often resist this scroll.

This scroll causes great fear in those who see the one who reads it.

Reading a scroll of fear causes most natural monsters in the reader's view to become frightened and flee for a few turns (including your allies). Berserk monsters are immune to its effects. It is extremely useful when swarmed (even better than a scroll of blinking in the early game), and should be saved for dangerous situations. In the late game, monsters with high magic resistance will often resist this scroll.

A similar effect can be achieved through the Cause Fear spell. The scroll casts the spell at 200 power, so it will always be more powerful.
