The seven-league boots are a high risk item. They let you instantly approach and hit your foe from any distance, assuming you go in the 8 orthogional directions. On one hand, you can attack a pesky centaur or Deep elf annihilator without taking damage just apporaching them. But you can accidentally rampage into battle, and immediately get surrounded or miss a staircase. Note that you can zigzag (for example, go diagnonal upleft and downleft) in order to approach something without activating the boots effect.
