The boots of the Assassin are a definite boon to stabbers, and still good for anyone else, although boots of running are arguably preferable if you can find them.
History
The boots of the Assassin were removed in 0.13. They returned in 0.14, but instead of providing +3 Dexterity and evokable invisibility, they allow short blade-level stabbing with any weapon (flavoured as the boots making you more aware of the victim's vulnerabilities), and provide passive creature detection. They retain their stealth bonus.
