A magical armour, made from the scales of a fire-breathing dragon. It provides great protection from the effects of fire, but renders its wearer more susceptible to the effects of cold.

Fire dragon armour is a relatively light suit of body armour which provides reasonable physical defense, a bearable encumbrance rating, and excellent fire resistance (rF++). However, it also penalizes the wear with one rank of cold vulnerability. While they are extremely rare, you can make your own by enchanting a fire dragon hide butchered off of a dragon corpse.

Desirability

Many players consider this the best general-purpose armour: it provides almost as much protection as plate armour, while having an encumbrance rating that will still allow spellcasting. The rF++ it provides is very useful, and the rC- is usually bearable given that cold attacks are generally rarer and less damaging than fire attacks, with a few notable exceptions. Still, it is often best to wait until you have at least one source of cold resistance before wearing fire dragon armour, as taking an extra 50% from cold attacks can be quite dangerous.

History

Prior to 0.10, this item was known merely as "dragon armour". It was renamed to avoid confusion with other dragon armours.
