[[Agony]] is a level 5 [[Necromancy]] spell which functions as a single-target [[torment]], cutting the target's [[HP]] in half. It cannot deal lethal damage, but it can soften up powerful, uninjured targets like [[hydra]]s or [[giant]]s to make them more manageable. Like torment, it is worthless against demons, plants, and the undead; unlike torment, it is completely nullified by any degree of [[life protection]]. While it never misses, it can be resisted with high [[magic resistance]].

The [[Pain]] spell makes a decent finishing blow, affecting the same creatures as Agony itself does.

Version 0.31: This article is up to date for the latest stable release of Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup.
Cuts the health of a target creature in half. This damage is never directly lethal.

Agony is a monster-only spell which attempts to inflict torment on a single target in LOS, requiring line of fire. If it succeeds a willpower check, it cuts their current HP by half. As with regular torment, negative energy resistance provides protection (players: -5% HP per rN+), as well as torment resistance.

Players can cast an analogous spell, Curse of Agony. Player ghosts with Curse of Agony get this spell instead.

Agonizing Touch

Agonizing Touch has an identical effect to Agony, but it only has a range of 1.
