Version 0.25: This article may not be up to date for the latest stable release of Crawl.

An amphibious creature is one that is equally at home on land and in water, and so there is no penalty to that creature for moving or fighting in water, and can travel through deep water. Most notably, merfolk fall into this category, as do a number of other Shoals and Swamp monsters, such as sea snakes and alligators. Player species that are amphibious are merfolk, octopodes, and barachim.

Note that this is not the same thing as drowning resistance: all unbreathing player and monster species are also resistant to drowning, which in practice means they take less damage from primal wave.

History

Barachim, a new amphibious player species, were added in 0.20.
