As with other distortion weapons, Rift inflicts very dangerous effects on unwield (including [[banishment]]), with [[Lugonu]] worshippers being exempt. Desirability

Rift,[1] as a +8 demon trident of distortion, is already a very strong weapon. The extra reach helps with blinked enemies, while the smite-targeting only makes it better when attacking behind summons or other allies. Distortion can be tricky to deal with, but it is a powerful brand (stronger than electrocution).

As with other distortion weapons, Rift inflicts very dangerous effects on unwield (including banishment), with Lugonu worshippers being exempt. Regardless, Rift's powerful base type makes it a fairly strong weapon that you shouldn't need to unwield for the rest of the game, seeing use with spellcaster and melee builds alike.
