An aquatic creature is one whose habitat consists solely of shallow water and deep water. Such creatures cannot willingly leave their environment, and if forced onto land will take asphyxiation damage each turn.

Because aquatic monsters cannot leave the body of water they inhabit, you can usually escape them by simply staying away from the water and any adjacent tiles. Many of these creatures have powerful ranged attacks, however.
