Version 0.28: This article is up to date for the latest stable release of Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup.

There are several occurrences of water in Crawl:

  • Shallow water, a type of terrain which randomly slows the actions of most species, and a home for aquatic and amphibious creatures.
  • Deep water, a type of terrain that is deadly to most species with the exception of aquatic and amphibious monsters.

Flight allows all species (and monsters) to ignore the effects of water. Giant monsters can wade in deep water and ignore the attack penalty, though are still slowed by water.

In addition, there are numerous things such as steam, ice, primal wave, and mist that are forms of water, though not floor tiles. These are all covered on their own pages.
