Crawl Tourney

Welcome aboard, glad to have you on the team! What server do you normally play on? --MoogleDan 21:25, 4 April 2013 (CEST)

I usually play offline (runs smoother), but I usually play on CDO when I play online. I'm not very good or anything: I didn't even win yet, as I died to a Hell Sentinel on D:2 when ascending (arrrgh!). I hope I can be of help to the team though :) --Lokkij 22:02, 4 April 2013 (CEST)
While winning IS the best way to gain points, they also reward you for other feats as well. And hey, maybe this'll be your chance for a big first victory! What's your best character so far? --MoogleDan 22:05, 4 April 2013 (CEST)
The character who got the Orb to D:2 was a MiBe, and while I'm pretty good with MiBe's, my favorites are Ice and Air elementalists (that is, I like playing them most, I'm pretty bad with them :P). For species, my favorite is by far Tengu, although I don't really know why. I also like Draconians, Deep Elves and Minotaurs. --Lokkij 22:58, 4 April 2013 (CEST)
Don't worry about not having a win yet -- I myself have only ever won once with a MiFi (I think minotaurs are probably one of the easiest races to win with). I almost made it to the Orb with a DgEE, but then I did a bunch of really stupid things in quick succession. Welcome aboard! --spudwalt 23:41, 4 April 2013 (CEST)
Welcome aboard! My first win was during a tourney so anything is possible! --Flun 03:55, 5 April 2013 (CEST)

Welcome! I also play on CDO (the console version), the few times I play online. How do you train your skills? Manual or Auto? That choice changes a lot the difficulty of the game. --CommanderC 23:46, 4 April 2013 (CEST)

Oof, there are people who leave skills on Auto still? o_O --MoogleDan 05:04, 5 April 2013 (CEST)
Don't worry, I train them on manual :P. When I first found out you could change it to manual (quite a while back), I was just flabbergasted how much easier it was :D. --Lokkij 16:17, 5 April 2013 (CEST)

Version 0.13

I've seen several places talking about potion of gain [attribute] being replaced by potion of beneficial mutation in version 0.13. Is this just something that's planned for the future, but no-one wants to/can do in 0.12, or does this mean 0.12 is ready for deployment and will become official soon? --Lokkij 21:03, 13 April 2013 (CEST)

You can play 0.12 now on the online servers. It's still in beta, but very near completion. Once it's ready, they'll make it available for download to play offline too. 0.13 details (such as the potions of beneficial mutation) can be discovered by playing trunk versions on the servers, but they'll be a long time coming.--MoogleDan 00:53, 14 April 2013 (CEST)

First win!

Good news, I got my first win today! Here's the morgue: http://pastebin.com/kyQikMYd And YES, I went into Hell so I could say to everyone I cleared Dis on my first win. And YES, it was the same for the Slime Pits. And yeah, I got a ton of nasty mutations from those orbs of fire, because there was no source of rMut to be found in the entire dungeon, even after clearing Slime and Dis. But.. at least I escaped alive :) Oh, and there's some really awesome artifacts (I mean, Acc+6 Dam+6, hell yeah!). --Lokkij 18:22, 18 April 2013 (CEST)

Nicely done! I wholeheartedly approve of not settling for three runes when there are more hiding out there. And gratz on finding that hat. That's easily the best thing in the game for a minotaur headslot :P --MoogleDan 18:55, 18 April 2013 (CEST)
Congrats! Next time learn some spells. Was that eveningstar the best weapon you found? --CommanderC 20:23, 18 April 2013 (CEST)
Thanks! Sadly, that was indeed the best weapon I found. I did find some demon whips, but no branded ones, and for some reason I found almost no scrolls of enchant weapon. And are spells actually valuable to learn for a Minotaur? I figured I should just stick with that +7 crystal plate armour for the protection, and to actually cast spells in that thing I would've had to have pretty high skills for low-level spells (and Minotaurs of course have horrible aptitudes for spells). --Lokkij 21:02, 18 April 2013 (CEST)
Even heavy armour users can eventually learn a few useful level 1 or 2 utility spells, but as you've seen, they're not entirely necessary. Apportation, Blink, and Shroud of Golubria are an awesome melee fighter set that even the dumbest brute can pick up. I rarely wind up wearing anything heavier than fire dragon or ice dragon armour in the late game specifically so I can grab a few of those, but if you can find the right resistances elsewhere, it's a matter of taste. --MoogleDan 21:25, 18 April 2013 (CEST)
Hey, congrats on your first win!
I usually find that you can survive without spells if you find the right evocable items and use your god well. Minotaurs aren't entirely useless with Evocations, and if you manage to find good rods/rings/wands/evocable artifacts somewhere, it can help cover some of your bases (though going completely magic-less is always a risk). A good set of crystal plate armour can really help you tank things that you'd otherwise need magic for, and a reasonable stack of javelins lets you soften things up from a distance.
Did you find any scrolls of vorpalize weapon? You can use those to make your own branded weapons, either by using the brand spells or by getting the Blade card from a deck. --spudwalt 01:11, 19 April 2013 (CEST)
