I've gotten a few wins with chaos weapons since the update ([http://crawl.akrasiac.org/rawdata/pisaster/morgue-pisaster-20240128-032616.txt qblade], [http://crawl.akrasiac.org/rawdata/pisaster/morgue-pisaster-20240226-224444.txt dwhip], [http://crawl.akrasiac.org/rawdata/pisaster/morgue-pisaster-20240207-131007.txt longbow]) and I think its very good on the right weapon, but I want to post here to see what other people's thoughts are before updating the strategy section since my experience with chaos is still pretty limited. I think it's one of the best brands for both quick blades and longbows, and a good brand for demon whips. My current feeling is that I would take it over anything but speed on a longbow (but wouldn't reroll to get it specifically), anything at all on a quick blade (unless I don't have any auxes or slay gear and want the more reliable damage from elec/distortion), and would be satisfied with it on a demon whip (unless I have a lot of strength to multiply the damage of flame/freeze/drain/heavy). Its notable on qblades because the fast attack speed means a good roll will often cancel out a bad roll, and being a short blade means a few of the good effects will give it significant bonus damage. For longbows (and other ranged weapons), you are likely to have a chance to flee if you get a bad roll at the start of a fight, and a few of the good rolls are more beneficial than they would be on a melee weapon because they can prevent enemies from reaching you. Does anyone else who's tried new chaos weapons have additional thoughts/disagreements, or is it okay for me to update the strategy section along these lines? :When I write strategy sections, I usually focus on streak play / 100% WR play. While chaos is certainly better than it was, chaos can still: 1. haste a monster -> 2. it gets 2 hits per move -> 3. there's a chance of dying in 1 turn, or you're forced to burn resources to prevent dying in 1 turn. In the early game, it's especially bad b/c of berserk. It's less of a problem late game, but hasted OOFs/liches/etc. are still painful.

Per the Tavern message boards, chaos weapons can also generate a shaft beneath you or move the stairs you're standing on a space away. Can any code divers confirm that these are possible? Link here. --MoogleDan 13:52, 22 March 2013 (CET)

I just killed a monster with a chaos weapon and it immediately revived as a friendly zombie (no special weapon effect message was displayed). Should I add this to the chaos effect list? Or is this just a possible effect of one of the brands already listed? (I have a screenshot saved if verification is requested.) Zeunysos (talk) 21:26, 27 June 2014 (CEST)

Looks like that was a reaping brand. I'll add it to the list. --spudwalt (talk) 00:33, 28 June 2014 (CEST)

Launcher of Chaos?

I'm not sure if there are any naturally occurring chaos branded launchers. I think The Ten Rune Challenge sprint map has a yaktuar with a chaos branded arbalest. I have never seen a chaos branded launcher in a normal game. But chaos weapons in general are very rare. I also don't worship Xom much, so I don't have much experience.

I'm saying this because I just removed a chunk in the article that talked about chaos branded missiles (bolts/arrows), but missiles are not branded anymore. Barberik (talk) 11:23, 28 June 2016 (CEST)

New chaos thoughts

I've gotten a few wins with chaos weapons since the update (qblade, dwhip, longbow) and I think its very good on the right weapon, but I want to post here to see what other people's thoughts are before updating the strategy section since my experience with chaos is still pretty limited. When I write strategy sections, I usually focus on streak play / 100% WR play.
I think doing something like heavy could work - list the positives and highlight the negatives. For heavy, I despise having >1.0 attack delay; but if you don't care about streaking, I hear it's pretty good.
