A sphere of flawless crystal, shaped by countless mantras. When one focuses upon it, the boundaries between 'self' and 'other' sometimes seem to blur.

Mechanics

This orb functions as a regular orb of energy. In addition, whenever energy refunds MP on a successful cast, there is a spell level/9 chance to recover 1-3 MP per monster in LOS and inflict antimagic to susceptible creatures in LOS for 2-5 turns.

Desirability

The crystal ball of Wucad Mu[1] is useful for magical characters, restoring more MP than a regular orb of energy while briefly crippling magical enemies.

However, it takes up the shield slot, reducing your defense. In addition, MP recovery is not guaranteed. Regardless, this orb can make the difference between victory and running dry mid-fight. Overall, it is a powerful item balanced by its fair share of drawbacks.

Characters who do not plan to cast spells at all have no use for this orb, nor do Djinn, who do not use MP and can't "steal" it.

History

  • Prior to 0.34, this item did not take MP from enemies or inflict antimagic, instead acting as a doubled orb of energy.
  • This item was introduced in 0.30, replacing the staff of Wucad Mu. Channeling mechanics were also changed in this version.
