This ring increases or decreases the hand-to-hand and missile combat skills of its wearer.

A ±X, ±Y ring of slaying affects accuracy by X and damage dealt by Y in the same format as weapon enchantments. It will affect both melee (including unarmed) and ranged combat, but not magic.

If both accuracy and damage are adjusted, the modifiers max out at +7/+7. If only one attribute is adjusted, it instead maxes out at +9. If the modifier is negative, the ring is often cursed.

A similar effect occasionally appears on artefact jewellery and armour, where it will be described as "It affects your (accuracy|damage dealing abilities)" and notated as "Acc+x" or "Dam+x". This effect, often referred to as slaying, is functionally identical to a ring of slaying.

History

Prior to 0.10, slaying was more powerful as it was included before the weapon skill multiplier.
