- This page is about the item. For the monster-only spell, see Phantom Mirror (spell).
A hand mirror which can create a reflection of a nearby creature, shattering in the process. The reflection's duration increases with Evocations skill and decreases with the magic resistance of the target. It is, invariably, slightly weaker than the creature it mirrors. |
Evoking a phantom mirror allows you to summon an exact duplicate of a single non-player target. The illusion spawns drained, with only 2/3 of the base HD of the mirrored monster. The mirror is a one-use item, and will be destroyed upon a successful use.
Attempting to duplicate a monster hated by your current god will fail without wasting a turn or the mirror. The good gods forbid the duplication of evil creatures, such as demons, undead, or creatures with evil spells. As a wizard-hating god, Trog forbids duplicating any target with a Wizard flag Spell, but doesn't mind copying monsters with magical-, demonic-, or priest-flag spells.
You can use a phantom mirror on some very powerful creatures, such as Cerebov or the Lernaean hydra.
