Mechanics
If the user takes a fatal blow, the dreamshard necklace shatters[1]. The necklace also has a 50% chance to activate if the wearer loses 80% or more of their current health in a single hit. The necklace will not activate if the user is under the effects of Death's Door. If the necklace shatters this way, it won't drain you.
When the necklace shatters, several effects happen:[2]
- The triggering blow is negated and the user is healed for anywhere between 50% and 100% of their maximum HP
- Shadow Creatures is cast, creating several floor-appropriate allies
- A bank of fog is created
Desirability
The dreamshard necklace[3], akin to the amulet of life saving present in other roguelikes, is an incredibly useful artefact. It is the ultimate escape item, though it continuously occupies the amulet slot (in place of amulets that already could've saved your life, like an amulet of regeneration or reflection), inflicts drain on a regular unequip, and is only usable once. While it is mistake insurance, please make sure you've tried everything else, first.
Despite already having multiple lives, felids still receive a benefit from this amulet, as it will save them from experiencing the XL reduction from an actual death.
History
- The dreamshard necklace was added in 0.28.
